Hasanuddin University Graduate School as a parent organization inaugurated its establishment on September 10, 1956 by Vice President of the I, Drs. Moh. Hatta. But the embryo of the birth of a new Graduate program began 34 years later (1980), when Hasanuddin University Rector Prof. Dr. A. Amiruddin form the Preparatory Committee for Postgraduate Education, chaired by Prof.Dr.Ir. Fachrudin. The task committee is to prepare the opening of Postgraduate Education Level Master (S2), in order to meet the needs of teachers in improving teaching and learning in Higher Education, as well as to meet the needs of regional and national development in Indonesia.
The hard work done by the Committee ultimately resulted in the discharge letter Decision of the Director General of Higher Education Department of Education and Culture, Republic of. 325/D/T/1982, which gives confidence Hasanuddin University Graduate Education opened with the Bogor Agricultural Institute in cooperation with Credit Collection Activities program (KPK). When it was new, there are four courses offered, the Study Program of Agricultural Systems, Planning and Regional Development, Environmental Management and Resource Economics, Graduate temporary leadership held by Prof.Dr.Ir. Fachrudin and Dr. Sjamsuddin Rasjid, M.Sc. as secretary.
Four years later, Hasanuddin University Graduate Education Program is recognized to be based on the Graduate Faculty of Presidential Decree No.. 52 of 1986 dated October 11, 1986, and inaugurated by the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof.. Dr. Fuad Hassan on December 9, 1986. Along with the inauguration of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, also signed the cooperation agreement between the University of Hasanuddin and Bogor Agricultural Institute of KPK plans for the Doctoral Program (S3) in a field of study related to Agricultural Sciences. At that time the Dean of Graduate switch from Prof. Dr. Ir. Fachrudin who was appointed Rector of the University of Hasanuddin to Prof.dr. Hardjoeno and assisted by Dr. A. Karim Saleh as Assistant Dean of Academic field, Dr. Ir. Anna K. Pairunan as Assistant Dean of Administration and Finance II and Dr. Syahruddin Kadir as Assistant Dean of Student Affairs III field. In this period the Faculty of Graduate menammatkan 5 people have started Masters as the first alumni.
Only four years later after the Graduate School was inaugurated, the Law on National Education System and Government Regulation no. 30 of 1990 issued by the Government, followed by the Decree of the Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs No.0311/0/1991 June 6, 1991 on behalf of the Faculty of Graduate Replacement back into the Graduate Program in the state universities and institutes throughout Indonesia, including the Graduate Program University of Hasanuddin . In this period the leadership Graduate Prof.dr.Hardjoeno held back by the turn of the academic field of Assistant I Prof.Dr. A. Karim Saleh who was appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Economics to Dr.Ir. Mas’ud Junus, M.Sc., while two other officers namely Dr. Ir Anna K. Pairunan and Dr. Syahruddin Kadir, M.Sc. remains at its original position.
Then enter the year 1992, after Prof.dr. Hardjoeno ending his tenure, the leadership of then chaired by Prof. Graduate Sumali Wiryowidagdo and assisted by dr.A. Tanra Husni, Ph.D., as Assistant I and Dr. Syahruddin Kadir, M.Sc. as Assistant II. Four years after that, Prof.dr. A. Tanra Husni Ph.D. promoted rose to director and assisted by Prof.Dr.Ir. Ananto Yudono, M. Eng. as Assistant I Academic and Research field, Dr. Hafied Cangara, M.Sc. as Assistant Administration and Finance II, and Dr.. Syahruddin Kadir, M.Sc. as an Assistant III Cooperation and Development. Subsequently in 2002 the leadership of Graduate Prof.Dr.Ir.M.Natsir held by Nessa, MS as a Director, assisted by Prof.Dr.Sumarwati Kramadibrata Poli, M. Lit. as Assistant Director for Academic Affairs and Prof.Dr.Aminuddin I Salle, SH, MH. as Assistant Director II for Administration, Finance and Cooperation. Entering the mid-2004 Assistant Director II positions experienced turnover, where new officials entrusted to Dr.Ir. Thamrin Idris, MS replace Prof.Dr.Aminuddin Salle, SH, MH, who was promoted to Coordinator of Private Higher Education Region IX.
After 20 years of the history of the formation of Postgraduate Education at the University of Hasanuddin, in addition to the number of graduates increased to 275 Doctoral, Master in 7370 and 804 Physicians specialist, also the number of courses offered are also growing. Currently, there are 32 courses offered for Masters level (S2) and 8 courses of study for the doctoral program (S3). This development not only because of the increasing number of professors Unhas returning from education at home and abroad, but also the public demand for further education are also more and more Pg. As evidence of this, there is now a 1737 Graduate student (S2 Program Regular) 2493 students (S2 Non-Regular Program) and 450 students are following the S3 Program education in various skills. They come from different regions, institutions and professions, and even become an academic community united in Hasanuddin University campus.
Cooperation between institutions is also increasingly done, not only among university graduate program providers or inter-department in the country, but also with institutions education abroad, such as Virginia Commonwealth University (USA), The British Council and the University of Machester (UK), The Technical University of Berlin (Germany), University of Cincinnati and Cornell University (USA), University of Guelp (Canada), University of Netherlands, Classic Regional Language Center (Singapore) and the University of Newcastle (Australia). This cooperation is carried out in various forms, such as exchange lecturer for the study of literature, an exchange student (sandwich course) and also the provision of scholarships.
